NOTE: Hover over menu items above to see all the categories of content featured on this blog! The “Work Samples” section features work I’ve done in a journalistic capacity either via student media or at internships. Thanks for checking it out!
What started as a Fall 2013 internship with TV station WFOR-CBS Miami led to a job in 2014. I’m now an Associate Producer at the station.
I also graduated from the University of Miami in 2014. While there I majored in Broadcast Journalism and International Studies, with a minor in Music Business.
I wore a lot of hats as far as work during my time at The U. Ironically, I almost never physically wear hats.
I served as the News and Public Affairs Director for WVUM 90.5FM since the summer of 2012. We are the radio station at the University of Miami. Our claims to fame are playing music for hipsters and mainstream-ers alike and winning awards for it (refer to our 2011 MTV-U woodie award). My proudest achievement during that time included hosting 5+ hours worth of election coverage as results came in during the presidential elections of 2012. I also spearheaded a partnership between WVUM and the Miami Hurricane newspaper by producing various podcasts on subjects ranging from sports to campus news. This involved training the students that hosted these podcasts on how to use recording/editing equipment etc. (You can search for “podcasts” on the TMHTV section of themiamihurricane.com to hear them!)
I was also an executive producer and reporter for UM’s student run and award winning cable channel UMTV. I produced/hosted their political talk show “We The Students” and filed reports for the Emmy Award winning program “Newsvision”.
I also have a musical side. I wrote for Distraction Magazine and edited their music blog at distractionmagazine.com. I’m also in a band called Sacred Fire. It’s there that I learned to love the local music scene and that’s what drove me to host “Locals Only” on WVUM. That show, as the name suggests, highlights music and musicians made in Florida.
I started my student media career at UMiami writing for the university newspaper, The Miami Hurricane.
I’ve also had a summer internship with the Florida arm of Moroch Entertainment, which is a PR firm that deals with publicity for Disney/Dreamworks films.
Before CBS Miami, I was an intern at WLRN-Miami Herald News, South Florida’s NPR station.
Samples of my work at all these various outlets and for my journalism classes are separated by type under the “Work Samples” heading above.
